Inground pools are built below the surface of the ground. They do not usually protrude over the level of the ground around the pool. These pools are available in three different types:
Concrete Pools
Concrete pools are created by spraying concrete on a steel frame. They are usually covered with tiles. Construction of this type of pool can take up to 3-6 months.
Vinyl Liner Swimming Pools
Vinyl-lined pools are typically built with a base of vermiculite, cement slurry, or plastic panels. The vinyl liner is then applied to the wall panels. Construction of a vinyl-lined swimming pool usually takes 4-8 weeks.
Fiberglass Pools
The manufacturers of fiberglass pools laminate the fiberglass with polyester resin, and then form it into one solid piece using a mold. The pool is made at the time of the purchase, and they only have to transport and install it.
What Are the Advantages of an Inground Pool?
Aesthetics
Many people prefer inground pools because they are more attractive. Inground pools are often designed and built by pool designers and builders in patios or gardens. These pools blend better with their surroundings than traditional above-ground pools.
Lots of Customization
Inground pools can be more customized than above-ground pools. These pools are easy to combine with slides, lights for the pool, other water features, and plants to create an attractive landscape.
The order of customizability is as follows: concrete pools; vinyl-lined pools; and fiberglass pools. Except for fiberglass pools, all above-ground pools can be customized to a high degree.
More Durable
With proper maintenance, inground pools can last for decades. Concrete pools, fiberglass pools, and vinyl liner pools are ranked in decreasing order of durability.
Vinyl liner pools have much lower durability. Manufacturers typically recommend replacing vinyl liners every 5 to 8 years. Sharp objects can scratch or tear a vinyl liner in a membrane swimming pool, and improper maintenance can cause wrinkles in the liner.
Increase the Value of Your Property
Inground pools are a permanent asset that can add value to a home. Some buyers will make the swimming pool a requirement for buying a home.
Inground Pools Have Their Advantages and Disadvantages
High Construction Cost
The cost of digging, laying pipes, and using construction materials will be directly affected by the size and depth of the pool. The excavation process can also damage the grass and other vegetation, leading to higher costs for removal and repair.
Site Requirements
Inground pools need a flat surface. If you plan to build a large pool, your yard will have to be prepared.
Non-transportable
Your patio pool can’t be removed once you’ve moved.
